K44RSF, Saph Cosworth Resto(FINISHED 19-7-09)

Postby Stu/RS » Fri Apr 24, 2009 5:34 pm

The time has come to get the Saph back to its former glory after WOS day at Knockhill. The decision to repair the damage and put it back on the road was quickly shelfed in favour of a full body restoration.

Its actually been away since October last year. Borrowed as a cross reference for someone elses rebuild (Damaged 11K mile car and a brand new shell. This one is gonna be stunning when finished)

Away to its temp. new home
Image

The years have been pretty good to the Saph, with only minimal repairs needing done. Heres a wee peek after some investigation work.
PS - Thanks Scott (rsbandit) for the wheels, so i can get the Escos rims off and into storage

No going back now
Image
Image

Arch is quite good but new one will be fitted.

Same this side, but new arch anyway
Image

Image

Damage from Knockhill. Fortunately this door needed replaced anyway, fooked along the bottom
Image

Back panel is not bad for a 16 year old car
Image

Not the worst
Image

A small repair to the bottom of the wing required and new jacking point needed
Image

All in all, not bad for an auld Ford

clip em Stu , Gibby is correct, paint will only disguise the rust for so long , and year after year you'll be painting the arches

they are no that bad but preventitive maintenance is always the best policy , especially when you are keeping the car !!

imagine the scene , bubbles after say 2 months , and a no happy Stu or Gibbster , water / dampness always finds its way
back through catty etc , good work peeps , do less now than more later !!!

Speaking from experience Stu dont bother Taking short cuts wiv the arches mate. Had mine done apparently they ground them out and welded in the holes and ground them off. Got the car back, 2 weeks later they bubbled and not even in same place where i had put it in 2 be done. For the sake of 20 quid a arch ad get them cut out and put in mate. Save a lot of bother later on. are ya getting a full shoot done on the car and painting floor etc ?

Good man its for the best. I only had one to do on mine like so just got whole back quarter painted , cant even tell where its been done like. Was gonna do floor on mine but then a thought i would not use it so just gonna get it waxoiled and maybe just get arms, tank, anti roll bars powder coated in the winter.driveshafts etc and go concourse next year lol  i think not !
