Duratec engine on bike carbs

Who knows anything about them ? Overheating or getting hot causing water to vent out rad overflows ?

is it overheating when driving or when idlling?

if its when driving it could running lean, causing the overheating. were the jets drilled out on the bike carbs to increase fuelling?

Bogg bros did the carbs and they are jetted , after some hard driving the water is overflowing out of the expansion tank connected to the rad . And both the rad caps are hissing air pressure . Due to the heat/ pressure . I think it is running hot , but don't know anyone that knows much about this set up .

hmm, could try letting it warm up without the cap on to see if its an air lock that will bleed out

What is the level of your expantion bottle in comparrason to ur radiator i.e is it higher or lower?? And what radiator cap are you using?

I am sorry for being a dumb ass but im thinking your running this engine in a mk2 escort
if thats the case have you got the heater matrix piped in if so try running the fan at full speed to bleed the system or if you think its an air lock problem maybe try and fit a water hose that has a bleed nipplie on it and see where that leads u to


How warm is it getting
does the fan kick in
have u got a working thermostat


why not throw away the thermostat and that would let water flow all the time instead of it being warm first ,, I am led to belive these dtec engines have plastic blades on the water pump and the replacement part is of a metal construction and i am led to belive these are much better as they do not heat up and bend the propellers as the plastic ones do its just a wee idea but have u had a compretion test done

It is a brand new of the crate ford duratec engine 0 miles .
Emma , the expansion bottle is higher than the radiator by about 50 mm , I filled it up again tonight and it took 1 -5 litres of fluid.
I don't think it's air , I have tried with the caps off and engine idling and you can see the water coming up and overflows out into the ground.

I personally think it is running lean on the exaust side ?

Alex is this not just a case of too much pressure in the old style rad

I would imagine the Duratec would run much like the Mk1 Focus RS were normal running temperature for the engine is 110 to 120 degrees C were as your rad and expansion bottle would be designed around the Crossflow and Pinto engines were like the CVH normal running temperature is 70 to 80 degrees C with peak fan cut in being around 100.

This is a brand new out the box car , everything is new. The rad is a updated big core alloy radiator big header . I have ordered some thermal temperature strips from the USA , which attach to the rad to get a true temperature reading as my infa red is taking readings from all the heat that is in the bay.

Apologies Alex I thought it was just an engine transplant in an old donor car, very strange as you say it could be running lean and causing detenation but new car setup should be able to handle 150 or so degree c water temp. Would need to be generating a lot of heat through deting to cause the resevoir to overflow.

I see Emma touched on how high the expansion bottle was in relation to the rad but should the expansion bottle not be the highest point of the full coolant system engine and ancilaries included. Temperature strips sound like a good idea to get an exact reading on the water temp.
